Columbia College Athletics is excited to announce the new Head Softball coach, Leighann Newberry.
From Lizella, Georgia, Leighann played collegiate softball for Gordon College and Brewton-Parker College. While playing, she received All-Academic each of her four years. She also received NAIA Student-Athlete of the year in 2011 and was a finalist in the SSAC Golden Glove Award in 2012. She graduated from Brewton Parker College in 2012, Magna Cum Laude, with her Bachelor of Arts degree in Sports and Fitness and a minor in Coaching.
Leighann has spent the last nine years coaching High School Softball in the GISA. She began her career at Robert Toombs Christian Academy where she spent three years teaching high school math and coaching softball, basketball, tennis, and track. For the last six years, she has been the Athletic Director, high school math and science teacher, and coached softball, basketball, and track at Windsor Academy. During her time at Windsor Academy, she won three State Championships and has received GISA AA Coach of the year three times as well.
Leighann will be taking over a team full of potential and strong leadership. She believes that teamwork begins with building trust and one way to do that is coming together to work for a common cause. Her motto is "when you got something to prove there's nothing greater than a challenge".
