The Columbia College community was saddened to hear of the passing of a devoted alumna, Elizabeth “Liz” Patterson ‘61. Thoughts and prayers go out to her family during this difficult time.
Liz Patterson was known by many as a three term member of the United States House of Representatives; however, the Columbia College community knew her as an alumna and former member of the Board of Trustees. She was the epitome of female strength and drive, becoming a role model to many women on and off campus.
“We have lost a dear friend and valued colleague,” said Toby Goodlett, Columbia College Board Chair. “Liz dedicated herself to public service and inspired others through compassion. South Carolina is a better place because of her efforts.”
Please join some of her Columbia College family at the services. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 PM Saturday, November 17, 2018, at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 PM Sunday, November 18, 2018, at Central United Methodist Church, by The Rev. Tom Norrell, The Rev. Luther Rickenbaker, The Rev. Robert L. Brown, and Rabbi Yossi Liebowitz. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Central United Methodist Church, 233 North Church Street, Spartanburg, SC 29306; or Charles Lea Center Foundation, 195 Burdette Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
