Community and Organizational Leadership

| Bachelor of Arts |

Overview

A degree in Community and Organizational Leadership provides the knowledge and skills to enable graduates to advance in many career settings such as large corporations, small businesses, non-profit agencies, or government agencies.

In the program, students learn to work as part of a collaborative team and help identify solutions that can improve organization performance. Students examine models of leadership and cultivate their own leadership skills. Students will be equipped to participate in the planning and execution of change within organizations while helping to minimize potential conflict that can result.

The program coursework strengthens interpersonal and organizational communication skills as well as research interpretation with application to needs assessment or program evaluation. Written communication is emphasized to improve organizational reporting at all levels (both informal and formal).

The Community and Organizational Leadership program is offered as a regular major in the Women’s College and Evening College at the main Columbia campus (with or without an Associate’s Degree) and as an Associate’s to Bachelor’s (A2B) program at off-site locations in a cohort model. Off-site A2B classes meet two nights a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays 6:00-7:15 and 7:30-8:45. A2B students complete three courses per semester (including summers); the program is completed in six semesters. More information regarding the A2B program may be found on the A2B information page.
