Edens Library

Located at the center of the Columbia College campus, the J. Drake Edens Library provides a broad collection of print materials, electronic resources, and media that support the College’s liberal arts curriculum and professional programs. Because the library serves a women’s college, the collection also focuses on issues and concerns affecting women.

The Edens Library contains a collection of over 177,000 volumes, subscribes to over 400 journals and magazines, and provides full-text access to thousands more through online databases. Internet access is provided at the library catalog stations. The library’s media collection contains over 30,000 items, including audio and videocassettes, compact discs, DVDs, kits, and public school textbooks.
There are two computer labs in Edens Library:
Collaborative Technologies Lab (Room 121), located on the Lower Level. This is a state-of-the-art space designed to meet the dynamically changing teaching and learning needs of our students, faculty and staff. It contains 8 stations that each have five chairs, a 37 inch screen, PC and a switch that allows users to connect a laptop to the screen. This room is ideal for group work and group projects, and the room is also equipped with a SMARTBoard for instruction. This lab is operated by the Information Technology Department.
Multi-Media Lab in the Overton Media Center (across the hall from Room 121): There are 20 iMacs and 14 Multi Media Dell PC’s stationed in the Media Center, as well as friendly tech-help at the Help Desk. (Click here for more details.)
The Media Center and Rm 121 are generally the preferred locations on campus for students to work on multi-media projects and presentations.
Workstations: There are several individual workstations clustered throughout the library. On the Main Level adjacent to the Reference Desk and Periodicals areas are 12 computer workstations. There are also 6 workstations on the Upper Level along the front wall. (*Note: the Upper Level is designated as a “Quiet Area.”)
Video and Audio Recording Studio: Room 309, located on the Upper Level of the library, has a computer equipped with Adobe Production Premium, Camtasia and Audacity software as well as video recording equipment. (Access to the room is restricted. Please see a member of the LITS staff.)
