Financial Aid Counselor

Position Summary:
Responsible for greeting and assisting students and visitors to the Financial Aid Office, preparing files and data for the awarding process, supervising student workers and managing supplies and office flow.

Education, Experience, And Skills Required:

  1. Bachelor’s degree required.
  2. He/she must have computer skills commensurate with the duties of the financial aid office.
  3. Specialized knowledge of EdConnect, PowerFaids, Jenzabar, OpenNet, ELM, and FAA Online is beneficial.
  4. Must have exemplary people skills to interact with students and parents

Duties of the Financial Aid Counselor
The Financial Aid Counselor:

  1. Is amenable to the Director and Assistant Director of Financial Aid for assistance in counseling students, and maintaining and securing files for individual students who apply for financial aid.
  2. Assists in daily processing of financial aid applications and in the distribution of information to those who request it in the various administrative offices.
  3. Packages aid for both prospective and returning students. Each counselor, for those students assigned, will award federal, state, and institutional aid, as well as federal and external loans.
  4. Serves as a state residency official on campus and is responsible for determining student eligibility for all state scholarship programs.
  5. Completes verification where necessary to finalize aid awards.
  6. Makes financial awards in a timely and efficient manner so that students’ questions concerning financial aid, including phone inquiries, are answered promptly and accurately.
  7. Creates within the financial aid office a pleasant and inviting atmosphere.
  8. Participates in professional organizations and in personal professional development activities, attending appropriate
