Spring Choreographers’ Showcase

The Columbia College Dance Company will present its annual Spring Choreographers’ Showcase on Friday and Saturday, April 7th and 8th at 7:30pm in Cottingham Theatre on the Columbia College campus. The fully-produced concert will feature contemporary works produced by student choreographers including CJ Anderson, Jordan Boxley, Erica Cooper, Ashley French, Deseree Hook, Lydia Ray, Demery Trantham, Meredith Yuhas, and guest choreographer George Staib of Staibdance based in Atlanta, GA.
Compelling choreography incites the audience to make connections with what they see and what they have experienced as they witness dance works that conceptually range from illustrating power and constructs that make us visible/invisible, displaying awareness of proprioception, cause and effect relationships, and our very own sense of self, to works that examine life in America since January 20th.
Original student choreography is selected through an adjudication process which encourages feedback from the campus community and the greater public during our free performance-in-progress lunch time series: The To-Go Show. Three To-Go shows are produced each semester highlighting student works-in-progress while the audience enjoys a brown bag lunch.  Post-performance, the audience is invited to join a circle to discuss choreography and creative process within an open environment.  Selected choreographic works are paired with a faculty mentor who supports the creative process through production.
Guest Artist George Staib’s work moat (excerpts) is culmination of a collaborative process with selected dance majors during a week-long guest artist residency in March. This residency included a master class for Richland One Honors dancers to initiate a creative process that continues throughout the spring with the Power Company Collaborative, led by Artistic Director Martha Brim and Associate Director Amanda Ling.
Tickets are $10 General Admission and $5 Senior Citizens/Students. For reservations, call the Cottingham Theatre Box Office at (803)786-3850. Columbia College is accredited through the National Association of Schools of Dance.
