Columbia College Swim team goes to NAIA National Swimming and Diving Championships

The Columbia College Swim team went to the NAIA National Swimming and Diving Championships. They had their highest team finish in school history at 8th in the nation.

Megan Monahan became Columbia College’s first ever Swim All-American in both the 100yd and 200yd Backstroke!
There were 4 school records broken, and each of the five swimmers who qualified for the National Championships all had personal bests in their races.

We are very proud of each athlete, Head Coach Jason Gallaher, and Asst. Coach Jordyn Barham.

Head Coach Jason Gallaher:
“I can’t say enough about how well these 5 women handled their events over the 4 day Championship.  We were slightly outside of the top 10 after the second day.  After day 3, we were in 9th place.  We were able to pull into 8th during the final session of the final day, after our 2 seniors had such a strong performance in the 200 Backstroke.  Two events later, Cassie Adams added to our point total in the 200 Breaststroke. With 8th in hand, our 400 Freestyle Relay of Cydney Donnelly, Marianne DeWitt, Megan Monahan and Da’Nelle Williams broke the team relay record and moved up in place from the morning qualifying swim.  It was a great way to finish such an outstanding meet.”

Additional Highlights:
Cydney Donnelly qualified for 2 Championship Finals in the 100 and 200 Backstroke.  She also qualified for one Consolation Final in the 50 Freestyle. Cassie Adams qualified for the Consolation Final in the 100 and 200 Breaststroke.  Megan Monahan qualified for the Championship Final in the 100 Backstroke and 200 Backstroke.  Megan’s 2nd and 3rd Place Finish in the Backstroke events earned her First Team All-American Status, making her a 2 event All-American.  All 5 Relays Scored with the 400 Medley Relay Reaching the Championship Final and placing 7th.
